Robbie Lawler Looks to Change Fortunes vs. Matt Lindland

Home-cage advantage? If there is such thing, it doesn't matter much to Robbie Lawler.The Strikeforce middleweight fights Saturday for the first time since a June loss to Babalu Sobral, and he'll do so less than 10 miles from his home training base. But Lawler said part of his mental strategy before his fight in St. Louis against Matt Lindland is to forget he's home.
"I'm going to treat it like I'm on the road, just because that's how I've been fighting my whole career - pretty much traveling," Lawler told MMA Fighting. "So I'm just going to treat it like any other fight week - stay in a hotel and eat out. Just keep it how it's been and don't change anything."

Gary Goodridge gets drubbed
Gary Goodridge has been in some pretty brutal fights but the drubbing he received in Europe over the weekend from Catalin Morosanu was pretty impressive even by his standards. It was hard to watch this fight without thinking of the Bob Sapp fight from the same event. Sapp went down as soon as it was convenient to do so. Goodridge stays up longer than any sane person should - maybe he figured since he wasn't able to do anything offensive, the least he could do was show off what a tough SOB he is. What results is an 8 minute shitkicking equaled only by the brutality of the first time Gary and Catalin fought. That video from 2008 - which includes a similar amount of destruction and more standing 8 counts than is morally justifiable - is after the jump.

UFC-WEC Merger Brings Excitement, Warning About Jobs on the Line
In theory, a bantamweight fighter shouldn't be able to end a heavyweight's career, but that's the exact scenario that is likely to play out at some point over the coming months as the UFC and WEC officially merge and fighters jockey for precious roster slots.With the Jan. 1 addition of the bantamweight and featherweight divisions in the UFC - bringing the total of weight classes to seven - the number of fighters looking for jobs will rise, but the total number of slots available to fighters is expected to hold steady.
That means fighters who might have gotten one more chance in the past after a questionable performance might no longer be so lucky. Instead, they might find themselves on the outside of the octagon looking in.
